Longos tells the story of the foundlings Daphnis and Chloe, who spend their childhood with shepherds on Lesbos, they get separated from each other, find each other again, love each other and finally find their parents and get married. The work is a mixture of the bucolic and the ancient adventure novel.
An attractive edition of a classic believed to have been authored in the 2nd century A.D. Although first translated into Englishin 1587, the Thornley translation of 1657 is considered by many to be the finest translation. This edition has been elegantly illustrated by John Austen in Art Deco style.
